About Dr. Fisher
Dr. Fisher grew up in Collierville, TN (near Memphis) on a farm that focused primarily on equine reproduction and training horses. She has always had a passion for all species of animals which came naturally with her everyday surroundings on the farm. She has a strong passion for horses, dogs, cats, and goats, but enjoys working on all species of animals. She currently has 3 dogs, 1 cat, 6 horses, 4 goats, 2 chickens and 6 turkeys that live on her farm with her and her family.
She attended University of Memphis for her undergraduate studies where she graduated with honors earning a Bachelors of Science (Biology) and a Minor in Chemistry. She then went on to attend Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine where she became a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine while also being inducted into The Honor Society- Phi Zeta for academic excellence. She later enrolled in a mixed animal acupuncture course at Chi University in Reddick, FL which led her to open her practice (Horse & Hound Veterinary Acupuncture & Wellness). She is currently enrolled at Animal Chiropractic Education Source (ACES) in Meridian, TX where she is completing a hybrid (online/onsite) course on mixed animal chiropractics.
Dr. Fisher continues to practice approximately 2-4 days a month in East Memphis at a small animal practice where she enjoys practicing preventive care, surgery, internal medicine, dermatology and dentistry. She truly believes in an integrative approach utilizing Eastern Medicine to its fullest, while recognizing Traditional Western Medicine also has a place in treating and maintaining animals. She feels continuing to practice Western Medicine helps her to be a well rounded holistic practitioner.
Dr. Fisher plans to continue to grow Horse & Hound and offer even more integrative options for your animals in the future.
She is very passionate about Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), not just acupuncture. She believes it is very important to assess the whole patient through a Chinese (Eastern) Exam and a Traditional Western Exam when choosing acupoints, herbal medications, nutraceuticals, and at home care. She feels this TCVM approach has contributed to much of her success in practice.
She has nearly a decade of experience as a licensed veterinarian in Tennessee and is also now licensed in Mississippi and Arkansas to better serve the greater Memphis area. She travels to Shelbyville, TN (middle TN) 1 week out of the month to serve horses in this region.
(She is a member of the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association), the TVMA (Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association), MSCVMA (Memphis Shelby County Veterinary Medical Association), AAVAA (American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture), IVAS (International Veterinary Acupuncture Society), The Society of Phi Zeta (The Honor Society of Veterinary Medicine).
